A memory. A moment. A Polaroid he keeps in his wallet. She wrote “I promise I'll love you forever, Arana Hills Hungry Jacks, Feb 1997” but forever feels different when you’re 17, and life has a habit of getting in the way. 

One in Seven is a concept musical that questions the strength of relationships under pressure, and what it takes to be a parent, against the odds.

In early 2014 Megan Shorey was selected as a finalist for the Queensland Premier’s Drama Award, where ONE IN SEVEN was developed with the assistance of the Queensland Theatre Company. Directed by Dirk Hoult, this showing will retain focus on the development of the book and score and the craft of story-telling: good writing, simple staging and will explore ideas of manipulation, betrayal, forgiveness, and what happens between friends and families when a little boy gets sick. This will contribute towards Dirk’s thesis for a Masters in Directing for Live Performance.
