Home Grown Musicals (AUS) Ltd, ABN 12 606 130 045 (Home Grown, we, us), handles personal information through our website, store, newsletters, enquiries and programmes, including Grassroots. This policy explains those activities. Additional information about the internal Store Operations app is available in its separate privacy policy.

Information we collect and why

  • Enquiries: your name, contact details and message, so we can respond and keep a record of the conversation.

  • Newsletters: your email address, any name you provide, subscription preferences and consent or unsubscribe records, so we can send the updates you request and respect your choices.

  • Purchases and donations: contact, order, payment-status, transaction and support information, so we can supply purchases, acknowledge donations, resolve problems and maintain financial records. Payments are handled through the payment service presented at checkout. Please do not send us card details by email.

  • Applications and participation: contact and team details, biographies, eligibility information and materials you submit, such as scripts, lyrics and demos, so we can assess applications, communicate outcomes and administer the programme.

  • Website use: technical and usage information, such as IP address, browser, device, pages visited and referring links, that our website and connected services may collect to operate, secure and understand use of the site.

We collect information directly when you complete a form, place an order, subscribe, apply or contact us, and through the services involved in those activities. We may also receive relevant information from a team member applying on your behalf or a venue or service provider administering an activity.

Grassroots applications also ask for your date of birth and offer optional fields for cultural or social identity and access-support needs. These details are used for eligibility, access planning and diversity reporting, not to score artistic merit or give preference in selection beyond the stated eligibility requirements. Home Grown personnel administering the application may see information included in it. Optional identity and access information may be sensitive information; we handle it with your consent or where otherwise permitted by law. You may leave optional fields blank and contact us about providing access information separately.

Only supply other people's information where you are authorised to do so, and let them know about this policy. Avoid unnecessary personal or sensitive details in uploads and free-text fields.

You may make a general enquiry without identifying yourself where practicable. If information needed for an order, application or response is not provided, we may be unable to complete that activity.

Who receives information

Information may be handled by Home Grown personnel, people involved in assessing or delivering the relevant programme, and professional advisers or service providers where needed for the purposes above. Relevant providers include:

  • Squarespace, for website hosting, forms, commerce and subscriber records.

  • Mailchimp (Intuit), for email newsletters and subscription management.

  • Airtable, for programme applications and administration.

  • Payment, email, file-storage and other technical providers supporting the relevant activity.

We may disclose information when required or authorised by law, or where reasonably necessary to address fraud, security concerns or a legal claim. We do not sell personal information.

Submitting creative work does not transfer its ownership to Home Grown. Assessment and administration are distinct from permission to publish, record or promote a work. Separate permissions or agreements apply where needed.

Newsletters and your choices

We use Mailchimp to send our newsletters and maintain subscription and withdrawal records across Mailchimp and Squarespace. At checkout, newsletter signup is currently selected by default. Untick that option before placing your order if you do not want marketing emails. You can also subscribe through our signup forms or choose the newsletter option on our contact form. Other enquiries and programme applications do not automatically subscribe you.

You can unsubscribe using the link in a newsletter or by emailing us. We will action a request within five working days. We may retain a minimal withdrawal record to prevent accidental re-subscription. Essential messages about an order, application or other activity you have requested may still be sent.

Email services may record delivery, opens and link clicks to help us understand newsletter performance. Your email application's privacy settings may affect this information.

Cookies and embedded services

The website and its providers use cookies and similar technologies for functions such as shopping, security and preferences, and may use them for usage measurement. Embedded media and features, including YouTube, Spotify, externally hosted fonts and accessibility tools, may connect to their providers and receive technical information when a page loads or when you interact with them.

You can manage or delete cookies through your browser settings and use privacy controls offered by the relevant provider. Blocking cookies or third-party content can affect checkout, forms and embedded media. A browser cookie preference does not unsubscribe you from email.

When you follow a link to a venue, ticketing service, retailer, social platform or other external website, that service's own privacy practices apply. This does not remove Home Grown's responsibilities for information we handle.

Overseas handling

Our cloud providers may store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States. Other locations depend on the provider, its infrastructure and support arrangements. The provider policies linked above explain their international handling. Overseas privacy laws may differ from Australian law. Contact us if you need further information about a particular service or activity.

Storage and retention

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, use or disclosure. These include limiting access to people who need it and using the security controls available in our systems. No online system can be guaranteed completely secure.

We retain information for as long as reasonably needed for the relevant activity, ongoing consent or withdrawal records, and legal, financial or dispute-resolution requirements. Different records may need different retention periods. When information is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it, subject to applicable obligations and backup arrangements.

Access, correction and complaints

Contact us to request access to your personal information, correct it, ask about deletion, or raise a privacy concern. We may need to verify your identity. Some records must be retained, and access may be limited where permitted or required by law; we will explain the relevant reason.

For a complaint, please describe what happened and how we can contact you. We will investigate and aim to respond within 30 days, or explain if more time is needed. If you remain dissatisfied, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner can explain whether it can consider your complaint.
